The netbook market will receive, in June, a bump in performance that netbook fans have been waiting for some time now. The Asus Eee PC 1215N is the first of them and will break the limits in multimedia performance that the current Pine Trail platform didn’t achieved.
Asus Eee PC 1215N will have an Intel Atom N500 dual core processor and Nvidia Next Generation Ion graphics. This opens the door to a netbook able to offer decent performance in multitasking and multimedia applications.
The netbook will have support for Nvidia Optimus technology which allows dynamic switching from the integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics with Nvidia Ion dedicated graphics according with the power saving settings and graphics power needed. So far the TDP hasn’t been announced so we can’t say what the autonomy of the netbook will be.
Asus Eee PC netbooks with Nvidia chips planned for release in the near future are:
- Asus Eee PC 1201N with the first generation Nvidia Ion (MCP79 chipset) will be soon retired
- Asus Eee PC 1201PN with the next generation Nvidia Ion and Atom Pine View without Nvidia Optimus technology (on sale from May 2010)
- Asus Eee PC 1215N with the next generation Nvidia Ion and Intel Atom Pine View dual-core with Nvidia Optimus technology (on sale from June 2010).
The Asus Eee PC 1201PN will come without Optimus, but a later model will get Nvidia Optimus technology. Asus Eee PC 1201PN feature a 12.1-inch display 1366×768 pixels resolution being able to play HD videos in 720p and 1080p with the right software. YouTube 720p and 1080p are playable with Adobe Flash 10.1 (or higher), but not without stuttering and slowdowns.
The Asus Eee PC 1215N will have a 12.1-inch display with resolution of 1366×768 pixels, 1GB/2GB of RAM, a hard drive, and pre-installed Windows 7 OS. It will be able to offer a more complete experience that the 1201PN including gaming, which always take advantage of a better processor. Price for the Asus Eee PC 1215N should be over 400 Euro.
