Who is Asus N53Jn?
Asus N53Jn laptop is part of the third generation of the Asus N notebooks series. This multimedia notebooks family distinguishes itself by its superior sound quality due to Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio system, a stylish one, due metal casing and outstanding multimedia performance.
One of the most active producer of laptops is Asus. Taiwanese manufacturer has launched this year dozens of laptop and netbook models worldwide. Many models have arrived in our office, and our editors have reviewed from 10.1-inch netbooks to gaming ”monsters”. But no laptop impressed us as audio segment as the new Asus N53JN has. But first things, first. Asus launched its next generation N series laptops in May 2010 (Asus N73Jn was presented), but the story began in March at the CeBit, when, Asus presented some information about upcoming N43, N63 and N73. Since then, we knew that the new models will benefit from Sonic Master audio technology developed by Bang &Olufsen, that will come equipped with the new Intel Core nVidia 2010 and will use nVidia Optimus technology . How Asus N53Jn looks like?
Asus N53Jn has a metal casing benefits and a stylish and attractive design. Established design theme of the N series keep visual wave on the display lid, continuing base line when open. Housing wins elegance through aluminum coated surfaces and the aesthetic speaker grille and metal (we think). Keyboard, which includes the numbers, is assigned to a matte plastic frame, providing a pleasant visual effect. Chiclet keyboard with keys well defined, ergonomic and pleasant to touch. Multi-touch touchpad is well bordered by palm rest. Button with two click areas is highlighted by being a glossy black, one of the few elements that reflect the image.
An interesting design element is the privacy filter on top of the display, more exactly the ON / OFF button located near the webcam – that way, you can choose to obstruct the webcam, so it should not be used without your pass account. It seems that lately, there are programs that starts webcam automatically, without even knowing it, and Asus comes with a solution – a piece of white plastic covering the sensor. On the left are ports: HDMI, the network e-SATA/USB and a USB 3.0 and SDXC card reader.
On the right side is the optical drive, 2 ports s USB 2.0 and microphone jack and headphone / speaker out, also the on / off wireless button.

How is Asus N53Jn equipped?
The new Asus N53Jn came out in evidence not only by design and sound system, but also by its configuration and technical performance.

As you can see above, N53Jn has a balanced configuration, the tone being given by processor Core i5-540M can get up to speed 3.06 GHz with Turbo Boost technology.
As a multimedia laptop, Asus N53Jn focus on two essential elements that underpin an extraordinary entertainment experience: the video quality on one hand, and sound, improved by Sonic Master technology and Bang &Olufsen ICEpower audio system, on the other. In addition to common office applications and Internet, Asus N53Jn was used to play HD movies and HD MKV format, all to unimpaired quality, we listened music and we enjoyed clear sound and loud speakers played by the famous Bang &Olufsen ICEpower. We can say that I could make the difference between a MP3 compressed play and WAV one. Resonance in over-sized rooms and specially placed speakers eliminates vibration and distortion, and software component precisely adjust the playback . This has produced a full sound and accurate perception of voice and surround elements. In addition to sound quality, I was impressed by thee power of these speakers. Regarding the dedicated video card, N53Jn is equipped with NVIDIA Optimus. It automatically changes between dedicated nVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card with 1GB VRAM 335M video memory and integrated Intel graphics card HD. Dedicated video card will be used when run graphics programs that require power, such as videos, games or multimedia applications, while integrated video cardPeter will be activated for activities such as browsing, viewing and editing office documents. Regarding the tests and scores, we ran all benchmarks nVidia Optimus technology active and I was surprised that no matter what version of 3DMark used, the system play strictly necessary computing power, no more, no less. Such a surprise you score in 3DMark 2001-4193, but that obtained in 3DMark 2006- 4559. Yet, Asus N53Jn did very well in games, too. Even if target segment is the multimedia laptops, we can recommend it as a modest gaming laptop. Not everyone has money for an Asus G51J 3D or Toshiba Qosmio F60-10H but probably will be many who will afford to buy a N53Jn. I ran Need for Speed Shift with medium settings and moved very well with an average of 44.83 FPS.
How much battery keeps, does it heat, does it make noise?
The whole system is maintained by a modest 6-cell battery – 4400 mAh and 48 Wh. In a year like 2010, 3 hours autonomy is no longer an advantage, and Asus N53Jn suffering in this chapter. Has a range of up to 3 hours, but different use and settings. The gaming or multi media mode took about 1-1.5 hours to discharge the battery. You can watch an HD movie for about one hour and 30 minutes without problems. I think the 9 cell battery would solve the problem.
As temperatures and noise levels, Asus N53Jn stays very well. Has some ventilation holes located on the left and bottom and warm air is dissipated efficiently. After lengthy testing and use Asus N53Jn recorded acceptable temperatures, very good we may say : HDD 32 C °, GPU 45 C ° and CPU 50 C °.
I think it heats gently to the left, but does not affect your typing comfort. It is a laptop with a very good quality / price / performance report.
In conclusion …
Asus N53Jn is a very good laptop on media segment. Bang &Olufsen ICEpower audio system is impressive, as well as design and the fact that Asus has dropped plastic and used more aluminum. It is relatively easy – 2.71 kg and has dimensions of 391 x 266 x 29-39 mm. It easily fits a bag or a backpack of 15 to 16 inches. It is not always very comfortable to walk with him on your back … but to office and back home is ok. It is equipped with cutting-edge technologies and configuration is a balanced and good one. NVIDIA GeForce 335M GT with 1GB of VRAM is available on gaming netbook Alienware M11x .
N53JN Asus Strengths:
