ExoPC Slate scheduled for September launch

For a tablet to succeed on the market and to attract more buyers it must offer them connectivity options so they can transfer files with ease, an application store, around 10 hours of battery life, must be affordable, light, thin, with sharp touch and multi-touch control, must boot and connect fast. Not exactly in that order, but those attributes must be present more or less, depending on the tablet.

So far, based on Windows 7 operating system, we haven’t seen any successful tablet, but ExoPC might be the first. Windows 7 even though it has support for touch control, is still a desktop OS and therefore not an optimized touch system. There are lots of Windows 7 based tablets especially Chinese-made, but the implementation isn’t optimized, all you get is a cheap, underpowered tablet with Windows 7 native touch support.

ExoPC Slate is scheduled for September 7 launch date in the US, Canada and France, the 32GB version will retail for $599, according to the company’s founder. ExoPC has a 11.6 inch capacitive touchscreen display, is powered by Intel Atom N450 processor and is able to play 1080p content with the help of Broadcom’s Crystal HD card.

In the pictures below we can see the ExoPC’s user interface layer. By the time of its launch the ExoPC will have its own app store, while the development kit will be available sooner, around end of June. ExoPC is the most important tablet based on Windows 7, since rumors qualified HP Slate as dead and buried.
