MSI Android and Win7 tablets come in June, dualscreen in Q4

MSI is preparing its own tablets for quite some time and so far we’ve seen some interesting design and innovations from this company. There were times when they seemed to get them on the market even before Apple, especially after we’ve seen a working prototype of MSI’s tablet at CES 2010, but the only hold down so far is the Android OS that needs some more work to include more features.

The company will wait and see how the public reacts to Asus’s tablets that are also due to launch sometime this year. One thing is sure, MSI will follow the same path releasing two tablets, in 8.9 and 10-inch varieties, one of them running Android and the other Windows 7 operating systems.

The Windows 7 tablet will be running on an Intel Atom processor, while the Android based tablet will be running on Nvidia Tegra 2. Guess which one will be faster, there’s no doubt that Tegra 2 will offer better performance being a System-on-Chip (ARM processor with memory and graphics on the same die) and will prove better battery efficiency with up to 10 hours battery life. Not the same thing can be said about the dual screen tablet, according to MSI’s Andy Tung:

“The two screens are a major drain on the battery, and even with a higher density battery and the Menlow CPU we are only getting three hours.”

No doubt that at Computex 2010 MSI will present their tablets. Along with them we will see other ones like Asus Eee Pad, HP Slate and maybe ICD Gemini. Any of them may prove to be the next best tablet except Apple’s iPad and with these strong opponents on the market we are expected to see some really nice competition and hopefully this will lead to a price war as well, because MSI already stated that the pricing will be “extremely aggressive.”
