Dell kills its Mini netbook line, goes ultrabook only

Although we wouldn’t have really expected it when the first ultrabooks made their way onto the market, it would seem that this particular brand of products is about to start killing at least a couple of its competitors, with netbooks being the first likely victims. For the time being, such a statement might seem a bit far-fetched, but it seems that Dell, one of the world’s largest notebook manufacturers, has decided to focus solely on ultrabooks, and kill its Mini line of netbooks altogether. According to a report by The Verge, Dell...

Mobile operator Vodafone has just launched a netbook that’s perfect for browsing the web. It has low specs but more important a low price that would attract anybody. It’s called the Vodafone Webbook and as the name suggests it’s an internet portable computer. The specs aren’t that great but at least it’s powered by the “Linux for humans” Ubuntu (make sure you ckeck our Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot preview) and it’s a known fact Canonical’s software is pretty light on hardware. The Webbook packs a 10...

Allview APC D425: Firstborn

Romanian manufacturer Allview has decided it’s time it made some laptops. The first one is the Allview APC D425 and from the start we can see an identity crisis. Allview is a company that focused on mobile phones (mostly dual-sim ones) and just in time for Christmas shopping they’ve announced a laptop. It’s called the APC D425 and we honestly don’t know where to place it in the laptop family. If we were to judge it by its size it would definitely be a laptop: it has a 13.3″ display with a 1200×800 pixel resolution…...

10.1″ netbooks are the smallest portable computers that pack decent performance and a versatile operating system. Going for something smaller means you want a 7″ tablet. Or do you? NEC is working on a very small netbook that has a 7″ display. But is it worth it? The prototype is called NEC MGX and it features a 7″ 1024×600 OLED display and it runs on an older version of Android. Judging by the image above the product is still being developed and we’ll see it hit the market in about a couple of years. The nice thing...

Acer has released yet another netbook that should satisfy every basic need of portable computing. And the best part of it? It’s already available. Normally we don’t get excited over a netbook. The only occasion we do so is when such a device has amazing features such as folding capability (Fujitsu tends to like this particular feature). The striking feature of the Acer Aspire One AOD257-13876 (yes, another long name. Can’t imagine why laptops can’t be named properly) is just the white color. Other than that it’s got...
