Until now we have two solutions for video acceleration, Nvidia ION and Broadcom’s Crystal HD Video Accelerator card. Which one of the two can better serve for playing HD content on a netbook releasing the CPU from this work and in the same time conserve power for more (longer) battery life?
In a recent test playing video content stored on the netbook itself (WMV, MPEG2, MPEG4, and MOV files) was possible to put these chips to work, because they can’t yet playback YouTube or Hulu until Adobe Flash Beta 33 is released. At the end of the test, it was shown that Nvidia ION offers better frame rates for HD video playback: 60 fps vs. 48 fps.
Now, the new generation of laptops can play HD video and so the platform is now complete, even some say this isn’t what they are meant for, but keep in mind you can always connect a bigger screen while you continue your work, and this can prove to be a big advantage.
