One of the most lightweight portables (1.58 Kg) of Satellite range, has arrived to Laptop Review Shop office. Toshiba Satellite T110-10Z was first skeptically regarded.
We weren’t exactly aware of what it can do or not, how powerful the processor is and which could be the advantages.
Exterior Design is alike his older brother Toshiba Satellite T130-10G, an other laptops which passed through our hands. Red color emphasized the mini-laptop without altering its elegance and the case’s futuristic textures offers refinement.
1.1 Keyboard and touchpad
As well as to Toshiba Satellite T130-10G, we find the same complete, simple keyboard with ergonomic and just a little smaller keys, but to me, not appealing. After a long time of using, you can get used to it and diminish its importance, but that’s up to you.
Regarding touchpad (alike the Toshiba T130 one), I can tell is a -touch control area and allows you to use gestures to parade, indicate and to click and zoo, without your fingers having to leave the touching area.
1.2 Ports
Since we still are at “outside” chapter I can tell Toshiba T110-10Z impressed me when I saw it coming equipped with HDMI port. Besides this, there are 3 USB 2.0 ports, aVGA port, a RJ-45 port, headphones/speakers ports and the input one. Depending on your desk and the way of using it, ports location could be quite ok, or contrary, a trouble maker. I must mention that the input is on the right side and the VGA port on the left side. Let’s not omit the card reader Bridge Media 5-in-1.
1.3 The display
Toshiba Satellite T110-10Z has a 11.6 inch display, with a 1366 x 768resolution. Alike the other tested models (Toshiba Qosmio F60 and Toshiba Satellite T130) this one too, benefits by the new display technology with LED backlit. This technology advantages: low energy consumption, which increases battery autonomy, precise control on light intensity and low voltage operation. As a plus, is ecological.
The 11.6 inch display is ok for a mini laptop. You can navigate on the internet, you can run different office applications, multimedia without any trouble at all, you can use it for movies and games, but is a little bit small and in time, becomes tiring.
2. Toshiba Satellite T110-10Z – technical specifications and performances
2.1 Technical specifications
Until here, nothing brand new. What we have found on T110-10Z, we discovered on younger brother T130-10G, technologies implemented on other Toshiba laptop ranges. Diferrence appears on performance and technical specifications.
On first phase Intel Pentium SU2700 1.3 Ghz processor doesn’t inspire so much confidence. On more then 1.6 GHz frequencies and even Turbo Boost technology year, 1.3 GHz seems to be quite little. Many of you can say you met this frequency 2-3 years ago. I was thinking the same, before I’ve tested laptops with this kind of processors, but I’ve had changed my mind.
Intel Pentium SU2700 1.3 GHz proved itself a powerful processor, even more powerful than an Intel Atom N450 that runs on 1.66 GHz, but is a little bit weak than Intel Atom 330.
Toshiba Satellite T110-10Z – Intel Pentium SU2700 1.3GHz – 2.8 points from Windows.
Asus Eee PC 1201N – Intel Core 2 Atom 330 1.6GHz – 3.2 points from Windows.
HP Mini 210 Vivienne Tam – Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz – 2.4 points from Windows.
In other words, is not just the frequency that matters, but the CPU’s architecture, is it dual core, core 2 duo or single core. So, when you want to buy a laptop or PC, don’t let the processor’s frequency fool you and try to find out more about its architecture and how it works.
I may add, about the T110 configuration, that there are under the case: 3GB memory DDR3 RAM, a mobile video card Intel GMA 4500M, HDD with 320GB capacity at 5400rpm.
Regarding software, T110-10Z is equipped with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, but also with some useful programs such as: McAfee Internet Security Suite ( 30 days validity); Toshiba Recovery Media Creator; Toshiba Photo Service; Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (60 days validity). 2.2 Performance
I used it for office purpose, internet, multimedia and even for photos processing. Yes, in did I had some patience with it. It was my travelling colleague for a few days and I was overjoyed by his powers and being small elegant and lightweight. I have succeeded to run 3DMark 2006 and I scored 603 points, less then with T130-10G, which had 4Gb of RAM and dual core processor SU4100 at1.3GHz and scored 669 points. YouTube’s HD movies and the hard disk’s ones ran in good conditions. I’ve processed on basic level in Photoshop I was patient enough with it. Is not very fast but you can easily make 2-3 Mb photos resize with it.
2.3 Autonomy, noise and temperature
On autonomy, noise and temperature chapter Satellite T110-10Z really did well.
First of all, is silent, the fan making an acceptable noise, even on maximum speed. Temperatures are on acceptable values.
As long as I used it, processor temperature was between 42 and 50° C , and on HDD was constantly 35° C , It may even be kept in your arms without getting “too hot”. But avoid keeping it on the bed or even obturate its ventilation slots, because there are chances to be overheated and you wondering why. This is valid for all laptops, actually.
Regarding autonomy, Toshiba T110-10Z impressed me with its 6-7 hours of normal function, having a 6 cell battery. On the official site you’ll find its autonomy of 9 hours, but it depends on how is used. I used it in normal conditions, music, internet, browsing, office – and all this time the display’s luminosity was 100%.
3. Conclusions
I recommend Toshiba Satellite T110-10Z to all that are constantly moving and need a little more performing minilaptop.As I over said this model is appropriate for office, internet and even for some complex applications and multimedia, but because of its small display there are moments when becomes tiring, especially when you are watching a movie. Its dimensions (286 x 211 x 24.9 – 37.6 mm) and weight (1.58 Kg) make it portable and its configuration make him above many of other models on its category.
