Redmond software giant, American company Microsoft is apparently hard at work, getting ready to release the rumored Windows “Blue”. This software package is said to be a major update to today’s Windows 8 and it may not be a new operating system. Many of the enhancements it will bring will also enable new features and capabilities in computer systems powered by Intel’s Haswell processors.

The Mobile World Congress 2012 is one of the year’s most important mobile and communications’ related tradeshows, and for this reason, Microsoft considered it the perfect opportunity for announcing the release of its Microsoft Windows 8 Co

nsumer Preview.

As some of you might know already, Windows 8 will target a very large array of products, from computers to tablets, its support for ARM-based system making it a very serious competitor for some of other mobile operating systems out there.

According to the company, the Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview will grant users a glimpse of some of the latest features added to the future operating system, such as an enhanced user experience for touch, keyboard and mouse input, as well as an improved app store, featuring some cool additions.

Furthermore, the Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview offers seamless integration of the content found on multiple devices connected to the cloud, as well as the ability to roam all settings, use cloud storage, communicate with email, calendar and contacts, and connect to a broad range of services.

An interesting extra is represented by the Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 5, which lets users experience for themselves the operating system’s browsing behavior.

“With Windows 8, we reimagined the different ways people interact with their PC and how to make everything feel like a natural extension of the device, whether using a Windows 8 tablet, laptop or all-in-one,” said Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows and Windows Live Division at Microsoft, adding that “the Windows 8 Consumer Preview brings a no-compromises approach to using your PC.”

CyanogenMod 9 lets you run Android 4.0 on the HP TouchPad

CyanogenMod 9 enables Android 4.0 to run on the HP TouchPad

It really seems that, for a fairly large number of people (also known as hackers to the rest of the world), getting an operating system to run on something it’s really not supposed to is quite an enjoyable activity, the latest accomplishment of this type being related to HP’s TouchPad tablet.

So, a team of intrepid software researchers have managed to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on the aforementioned tablet (natively designed to run the ill-fated WebOS), using for this an mod of their own making, known as the CyanogenMod 9.

However, for the time being, it’s quite clear that we’re talking about a very early build, still posing a lot of problems, with many features working poorly or not at all. For example, there’s still no hardware video acceleration, no camera functionality, no working microphone, no USB file transfer possibilities.

In fact, even if the Android App Market does work, it’s still pretty buggy and requires some resolution adjustments in order not to crash entirely.

Nevertheless, the CyanogenMod 9 does make a very good point, namely the fact that customers who’ve already purchased the HP TouchPad are are somewhat distraught by HP’s decision to abandon it can now hope for a solution to make their investment worth it, at some point.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Announced (Video)

GTA5

I still remember the fun I had while playing GTA 2. Years have passed and Grand Theft Auto 5 has been announced and even a trailer has come out.

All Grand Theft Auto titles included fast cars, gang members, the mafia, the police (not the band), guns, explosions and the cheats that made the game so funny. The story however is different but we’d better see the trailer first:

Rockstar Games is still working on it since it didn’t give us an official launch date but we guess 2012 is the safest bet.

What to expect from Android 4.0 tablets

Android 4.0

The Galaxy Nexus smartphone was introduced hours ago and it is the first gadget to bring Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to the consumer. Here is what to expect from the tablets that will come.

The Android 4.0 and Galaxy Nexus video shows just a part of what the mobile OS will be capable of. Until then we’re looking at a powerful smartphone powered by speed demons on Tron bikes. Other than that the new OS can initiate data transfers over a new feature called Android Beam, it can shoot panoramic photos, it can also unlock the device by using face detection and it comes with an improved notification center (or whatever’s the name).

What matters the most is these features are going to come to life on tablets and we haven’t even seen it all yet. Here’s the video:

By the way, the Galaxy Nexus will be available in November, so we might have a clue about the Asus Transformer 2 launch date.

Grand Theft Auto III coming to the iPad

11.10.14-GTA3

Since it’s weekend and we can do with some games, we looked for the latest titles and we found out Rockstar would port one of their most famous games on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

Grand Theft Auto III was launched back in 2001 and since then it allowed us to get rid of our daily rage by driving fast, shooting the mafia and blowing up police cars. The game was so successful that it has been sold in over 14.5 million units world wide. Well now Rockstar has decided to develop the game for the iOS platform – the iPad 2 and the new iPhone 4S. Apparently the dual-core processor and faster graphics make them the only iOS 5 gadgets compatible with the game… sorry iPod touch users.

The game on the iPad is what caught our attention because of the size of the screen. The game may be fun on the iPhone 4S but the iPad will be the true star later this fall when the game will be available. To mark the 10 year anniversary Rockstar will also launch an action figure for those who come home from work, launch GTA III on the PC and the first thing they type is “BANGBANGBANG”.

Android users will get the game this year too on their smartphones and tablets.
