Swiftpoint, a mini-mouse for the laptop

  • Sharebar

A New Zealand based company by the name of Swiftpoint, revolutionizes the way you use your laptop mouse with their new product; a new, re-designed mini-mouse for laptops.

The Swiftpoint mouse can be held with two fingers, more like a pen, it takes a lot less space than the conventional mouse, and is wireless in nature. This mini-mouse has all the functions a classic laptop mouse has, but due to its tiny size it can operate on the area of the laptop next to your touchpad, called the palmrest. This makes for laptop users to use their laptop in any environment, either on a train or airplane, not needing another surface to rest your mouse on, other than the surface of your laptop. The Swiftpoint still offers the performance and accuracy of a mouse, never having to use the touchpad again.

Well so how does it actually fell in hand? The first few minutes of gripping the mouse with three fingers feels awkward, but after a while it becomes natural to take your hand off the keys and automatically assume the pen-grip position. Swiftpoint also states that they will release one for lefties, but for now, the rodent is available for righties only. The basic controls are straightforward – the left mouse button is on the front, the right mouse button right in back of it, and the scroll wheel on the right side.  The scroll wheel is great, you can just use your index finger on the scroll wheel, or you can tilt the mouse to the right so the wheel is resting on the palmrest or table and drag it up and down. You can customize the mouse’s “up” direction by holding down the right and left buttons and dragging the mouse upwards. The idea is to change the direction of the mouse when working in certain environments.

The Swiftpoint mouse has an incredible battery, 30 seconds of charging can make up for 1 hour of use. This tiny rodent is available for the price of $69.95 and comes with some astonishing features. It has a small USB receiver adorned with a magnetic piece that attached to the bottom in order to charge the mouse.  Affixing the mouse to the dongle is great, but depending on your laptop model, it can end up blocking other ports. The Swiftpoint mouse has an uncanny design, making it incredibly agile and handy to use.

The mouse itself is extremely easy to set-up on both PC and Mac, and requires no extra software. Just plug in the USB dongle and you’re up and running. Even quick pre-programmed shortcuts work, such as holding down the left mouse button and scrolling to zoom in on images or webpages.

As you can see in the video below, Swiftpoint managed to make a mouse with the ability and portability of a touchpad.
