Chinese company Huawei is very serious about carving itself a considerable slice of the mobile gadget market and it seems that it is taking on every big player that already has an entrenched position. It has released its own powerful smartphones to compete with the likes of Samsung and Apple. It has even developed a phablet that competes against the well-known Samsung Galaxy Note II and now it will apparently attempt to tackle Google’s Nexus 7.

Huawei is becoming an increasingly important player on the smartphone and tablet markets, and in order to re-assert their position, the company just revealed at CES 2012 that their MediaPad tablet will be among the first to offer Android 4.0 ICS right out of the box.

So, beside revealing that all of its MediaPad 7-inch tablets will come pre-loaded with the Android 4.0 ICS operating system starting with Q1, 2012, Huawei also introduced a brand-new MediaPad color series, available inthree eye-catching colors: shadow black, classic brown, and passion pink and running on Android 3.2.

Moving on to the hardware configuration, we’ll have to mention that the Huawei MediaPad Android 4.0 ICS tablet and the color versions are powered by a Qualcomm dual-core 1.2GHz processor, accompanied by a 1280 x 800 pixels 217 PPI screen supporting 1080P Full HD video playback. Battery life is fairly good, as it’s been rated at around six hours or more.

Last, but certainly not least, we’ll have to point out that the Huawei MediaPad Android 4.0 ICS tablet and the color MediaPad models will become available in selected markets in the first quarter of 2012, while customers who’ve already opted for the MediaPad owners will receive an OTA Android 4.0 upgrade to their tablets, roughly in the same time frame.

Huawei announces the S7 Tablets: the Slim and Pro

Last time we checked Chinese products tend to be flimsy, cheap and very disposable. Now we have to think it over and face it: we we’re wrong.

Huawei doesn’t make self exploding devices since all gadgets must be approved by the FCC. So it won’t fall apart since the first day of use and it won’t melt in your hands due to overheating. Moreover, Huawei has taken the liberty of launching two products… even the names are bold: the Slim and Pro. And I think you know what they’re meant for.

First of all, the Slim is going to appeal to people who want a bigger screen than their 4 inch smartphone, but not so big they have to carry a laptop backpack all the time. So a 7-inch tablet seems the right option and Huawei has done that and fitted the S7 Slim with a 800×480 capacitive display. Connectivity options include GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI and microSD. There is also a front facing camera which you can use all they to videochat on the Android 2.2 software. All these features are powered by a Qualcomm processor.

The S7 Pro has some mystery around it as it was just a prototype when revealed. We could still see the aluminum case, the USB and HDMI ports and the two cameras. There are some rumors regarding the processor being a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU. Also the Pro is supposed to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and play 1080p video.
