iBuyPower-Battalion-101-X8100

When we talk about games there’s no such thing as compromise, a true gamer needs only the best possible combination of components in order to top the other players. Long gone are the days of single player campaign games, the multiplayer mode is where a gamer test its skill against other players. iBuyPower released the Battalion 101 X8100 gaming laptop based on a market growth of gaming laptops. They are becoming more and more desired compared with standard desktops, because they can pack the performance, are silent and easier to transport (to a LAN party for instance) even though they tend to be a bit more expensive.

One month ago we presented the most powerful gaming laptop to date, the AVADirect Clevo X8100. They use the same casing, the same 18.4-inch display with Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Both of them can use a SLI configuration with two Nvidia GeForce GTX 285M graphic cards with 1GB of memory each.

Battalion 101 X8100 comes with top of the line quad mobile processors and users can choose between Intel Core i7-720QM (4x 1.60GHz/6MB L3 Cache) which comes with basic configuration, Intel Core i7-820QM (4x 1.73GHz/8MB L3 Cache) for extra $310 or the fastest laptop processor Intel Core i7-920XM (4x 2.00GHz/8MB L3 Cache) for extra $916.

The laptop has a standard 4GB DDR3 system memory included, but for extra $455 you get double amount of memory. The laptop can be fitted with up to two hard drives (Clevo X8100 could fit three hard drives) with the option for up to 640GB HDDs or up to 512GB SSDs (Corsair, Kingston or Intel brands) which can be set into RAID 0 / 1 mode for performance or safety modes. The included hard drive as standard is a 320 GB 7200rpm S-ATA hard drive.

The optical drive used is a 8x Dual Format DVD±R/±RW + 16x CD-R/RW combo, but for extra $139 users can opt for 2X Blu-Ray-R/8x Dual Format DVD±R/±RW + 16x CD-R/RW combo. To supplement the storage capacity, the laptop features a built-in 7-in-1 media card reader/writer.

The other specifications are: 56K V.92 fax modem, 10/100/1000 Network LAN, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, 1x eSATA, 1xFirewire, 2xHDMI outputs, a 2 megapixels webcam, fingerprint reader, 3D SRS Premium Surround Sound for better gaming experience. The laptop comes with a Li-Polymer battery, preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate.

iBuyPower Battalion 101 X8100 is available in metallic black colored casing. Its starting price for the standard configuration is $2384 (Clevo started as roughly the same price $2500) and it can get over $7000 ($8000 for Clevo which added an extra hard drive) if high-end extra options and games are chosen.

Asus included in its entire N series notebooks the super-fast USB3.0 that shorten time needed to transfer data, alongside with audio and video improvements, and the energy efficient Super Hybrid Engine technology. It is safe to say that this machine will run in decent, if not perfect conditions any applications you throw at it.

Asus N series notebooks, such as the N82J, are multimedia notebooks and to achieve this goal powerful hardware isn’t enough, sound quality is also very important to bring out the best in entertainment and gaming. Asus SonicMaster is meant to do just that by combining custom-built Altec Lansing speakers and software processing of all sound output. The result is superior to normal notebook sound systems thanks to extended vocals, wide range processing technologies.

Asus N82J has a technology called Asus Video Magic which has multiple purposes: to accelerate frame rates to 72fps in order to eliminate blur and upscale DVD content to 1080p HD in real time and with low system load. The Asus Splendid Technology offers vivid colors, more contrast, and brightness ratios. Both of them complemented by Nvidia CUDA which boosts overall performance and reduce system power demands, therefore offering better battery life.

Nvidia Optimus technology is also present alongside with the ones described above, and allows the Asus N82J to offer a very good balance between power and battery life. Optimus switches between the dedicated GeForce GT335M when high-end gaming and image processing are run and integrated graphics for normal tasks with no demanding visuals, leading to a wiser battery usage.
