Convertible ultrabooks, the next big CES 2012 hit?
Since the ultrabooks are one of the biggest hits of late 2011, despite just a handful of models being currently available on the market, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise the fact that we’ll see plenty of interesting additions to this segment in early 2012, with CES 2012 most likely being the stage for a lot of new product launches.
In fact, it seems that beside the traditional ultrabook form factor, we’ll also start to see some variations in terms of design, such as some convertible models, as VR-Zone reports.
This would...
NVIDIA GeForce 600M mobile GPU series formally announced
Rebadging older products under new names, pertaining to a whole new generation, has become somewhat of a habit for at least two of the most important graphics card manufacturers out there, this also being the case with the latest mobile GPUs launched by NVIDIA, namely the GeForce 600M series.
For the time being, the 600M series includes three models, namely the GeForce GT 635M, GT 630M, and 610M, all of which provide only some small improvements over their GT 500M series counterparts.
The first model in the list, the GeForce GT 635M is available...
Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabooks will threaten tablet market, claims report
While ultrabooks might be the latest and greatest implementation of the ultra-portable computing concept, it really seems that they’re quite far from having reached their full potential, and a new report seems to hint that, on the future, they might actually even threaten tablets.
According to DigiTimes, the imminent arrival of Microsoft’s next-gen operating system, Windows 8, has prompted display manufacturers to come up with solutions that would leverage the enhanced touch support provided by this OS, and in the same time take the...
Mobile AMD Radeon HD 7000M GPUs make appearance in Asus, HP notebooks
AMD’s Radeon HD 7000 graphics card series is one of the hottest subjects in the IT world these days, and it seems that the company is quite keen on pushing both desktop and mobile versions of this new family, since the HD 7000M cards seem to have already made an appearance in a couple of notebooks.
So, according to a post on the German forum pcgameshardware, it seems that the first two recipients of the new HD 7000M graphics card are Asus and HP models, namely the Asus X53TK-SX058V and the HP Envy 17-3030ew, respectively. The mobile GPUs...
Intel mobile Ivy Bridge CPU 2012 lineup leaked
Intel’s dominance of the mobile CPU market cannot be denied, and it seems that this state of things will perpetuate well into 2012, as the freshly leaked details regarding the company’s mobile Ivy Bridge lineup paint a pretty interesting picture of what we should expect next year.
The guys over at VR-Zone have managed to get their hands on some pretty comprehensive information regarding the future series of Ivy Bridge CPUs (both in desktop and mobile flavors), and from what we’ve been able to see thus far, Intel has prepared quite...
Samsung showcases 10″ 2560×1600 display
There seems to be a display race between manufacturers. After last week’s announcement by Toshiba it’s Samsung’s time to showcase a 2560×1600 display, although this is a bit bigger.
The Toshiba display we saw last week was a magnificent thing to look at (if only we could actually look at it!) but in real life we’re afraid it’s not going to work.
On the other hand the 10.1″ 2560X1600 display made by Samsung may be the next big thing in tablets. Just as Apple used the Retina Display for the iPhone 4 and iPhone...
Toshiba 6″ 2560×1600 display introduced
The display resolution war is going on between Apple’s Retina Display and Samsung’s SuperAMOLED one. Here comes Toshiba with something that’s in a different league.
The Retina Display is considered to be one of the best smartphone displays out there. Other may argue Samsung makes better displays but we could argue for days. What’s important is Toshiba’s new 6″ display that boasts the amazing 2560×1600 pixel resolution. To try and put this into perspective you should know the 27″ iMac displays only 2560...
Apple decides to keep Samsung’s A6 processor
The decision to keep Samsung’s A6 processor doesn’t really come as a surprise for us. Although Apple has been seeing Samsung more in court rather than on the market, the two tech giants are still doing business together.
Most people got caught up with all the iPad vs Galaxy Tab trials, bans and lawsuits but at the same time the same people forgot that Apple is a very important partner (a.k.a. buyer) for Samsung. We believe the trials are important as a kid poking another with a stick. Apple uses Samsung displays and now the Cupertino...
Windows 8 on HTC Shift (video)
The HTC Shift has been released over three years ago and it featured an 800MHz processor and the ability to run Microsoft Windows Vista. In 2011 it can still run Microsoft’s OS, but this time we’re talking about Windows 8.
The HTC Shift was an expensive way to carry the awful Microsoft Windows Vista around. It had a small screen, it was pretty heavy and cost more than an arm and a leg. If you bought one chances are you moved on to a full laptop and left the Shift in a dark place to think about its features before demanding such a high...
Ivy Bridge to support 4096×4096 resolution
We’ve got some crystal clear times ahead of us thanks to the upcoming Intel Ivy Bridge processor that will support immense display resolution. The best part is Ultrabooks are also going to have such displays.
As I’m sure you know there have been some rumors about Retina Display Macs. So far we’ve been hearing that the smart men in white coats are working their magic but during the IDF 2011 show Intel has clearly shown the power of the Ivy Bridge processors.
To drive a 4096×4096 display would require a dedicated graphics card...
